Wardrobe Essentials for College Guys

So I just got into my dream college and naturally I started to research a lot on how to groom myself as I just turned 18 and stepped into my adulthood. This video will be me sharing the essential pieces of clothing & accessories that I feel any young college guy should have which will help him build a versatile wardrobe from scratch and would enable him to mix & match and create new looks with the same set of clothes.

Before we start I would like to give a disclaimer. See, at the end of the day looks are subjective. So always wear what is comfortable for you and what gives you confidence. I am just sharing what worked for me. I am not a professional at this. I am just sharing the information that I know and learnt through research and experience. Thank you.

With that said, first, let’s start with the basics.

Firstly get yourself T-shirts in white, black and grey. These neutral T-shirts can be used separately or can be used for layering your outfits. you can pair these with pants of any color. These are some of the most versatile T-shirts and is a must for any guy to have.

Secondly, get chinos in black, grey, white and beige. Also get a good quality jean. These are all the pants you need. These pants go well with almost all outfits and will help you mix & match and get new looks. I would recommend going for a taper fit but you can go with any fit you want. Later, you can also get other colors like green, red to experiment with.

Thirdly get a white, black, light blue & light pink shirt. This will suffice all your formal needs along with the pants and would give you a professional look. you can also use these shirts along with a good suit if want to.

Now I would recommend getting a couple of polo shirts for the semi-casual, semi-formal look. you can go crazy with the colors but try to keep these and all the above mention items plain as this will make sure that you will be able to layer over these.

I would recommend you to get two hoodies, one in grey and one in black which would be great for layering. Get a denim jacket, again would be great for layering

All these pretty much covers the clothing essentials you need. Patterned linen shirts, knitwear like sweaters and jackets are good to have for layering but are not essential.

Now, when it comes to accessories I like to keep it minimal. Its good to have a ring, a chain and a watch. Also get a good quality brown / black leather belt. For footwear, start with a set of white sneakers, a pair of brown / black formal leather shoes. you can also get crocs or flip flops for more casual outfits.

I think that pretty much sums up all you need to get started to build your wardrobe.
